The Heart of our Trip:
The Philippines.
As we wrapped up two packed, beautiful weeks through Asia, our final stop took us to the Philippines.
For so many reasons, it felt like coming home. Even though many of the family members we visited had never met kidlet in person, the love was immediate. Pure. Doting in the most Filipino way possible: full of food, care, affection, and joyful noise.
We talk often about how raising a child with a rare condition like KBG syndrome can feel isolating. There are the medical unknowns. The social complexities. But then you find yourself halfway across the world, watching your child be embraced not only by family but also by strangers who treat her like one of their own, and you realize: you’re not as alone as you thought.
Because here’s the thing: it wasn’t just family. The kindness extended in every direction. Resort staff, tour guides… people who took the time to engage with her and her siblings, to notice them, appreciate their curiosity, and meet them with genuine care. There’s something about the culture here that truly sees kidlets and meets them with a level of patience and presence we haven’t experienced anywhere else.
This stop brought us closer to family, gave us a deeper sense of place, and left us with a kind of welcome that stays with you forever, making every hour of that twenty-two-ish hour long journey across the Pacific worth it.
TL;DR? 10 out of 10, you should absolutely visit the Philippines.
